Hello everyoneDate: July 31, 2011 8:52:26 AM MDTTo: "TamaraARR" <tamaraforarr@live.com>Subject: Time up : Am bulldog purebred need commit by Monday 1st am.
She had a potential rescue but fell thru. She is purebred, per Barb. She seems good, friendly just is depressed cuz she has just had puppies. Didn't show up with them, which seems to happen a lot.
We haven't had her dog tested, but we can ask dmas for the volunteers info as they've walked her etc.
I can go see her but not until tomorrow early afternoon, you'd have to commit based on a test.
She seems to be a very nice girl and another rescue volunteer met her and said the same thing.
LAST Chance effort for her.......please let me know.
Other notes: The American Bulldog is shy, but no aggression. She just had puppies recently and Barb thinks she is depressed:( She just walks away from the kennel when you try to see her.

so there are two different facebook threads on this dog. it looks like she may have gotten pulled by a rescue as of sometime today but the shelter wont say which one right now (is that normal?).this is the last information from a few hours ago:"I had Carolyn call the shelter today and she is to be picked up by rescue.....they wouldn't give the rescue information out....but I will try to find out who got her.....I am also going to ask if they are going to keep us updated..."i know that kim (from the ARAN list) sent out an email to a bunch of rescue groups in OKC, so if one of those groups was able to take her out of the shelter, maybe they will e-mail her back and say so. otherwise hopefully the person from rainbow bridge can find out. i still wonder what happened to this dog and what kind of care she will need to get better..here are the two facebook threads about this dog:
So shines a good deed in a weary world.

Peaceful Fur Education OutReach will happen on Saturday, August 6, 2011
| |||||||
Looking for a few good humans who feel in their hearts that it's important to educate the public about the evils of the fur industry. You don't have to be a member of this MeetUp group, personally leather free in your own closet or knowledgeable on fur issues, in order to participate in our events. All you have to do is care and want to do something for the animals. Just keep an eye on the calendar. If you are thinking "They don't need ME! They have PLENTY of people out there!" Think again!! We need every hand we can get to hold a sign and stand up for the animals. It's organized and everything is provided. All you have to do is show up, bring your coffee, wear a smile, chat about current events with your fellow activists, and hold a sign for the animals who have NO choice of where or how to spend their days. Join us to speak up for the innocent animals who are trapped by greed and skinned for vanity! WHY???? "Fur" Animals get NO relief from freezing cold or searing heat or agonizing traps or terrifying death. We have a choice, but they do not. The Price the Animals Pay The REAL price of fur must be measured in deaths--not dollars. To make one (1) fur coat you must kill at least fifty-five (55) wild mink, thirty-five (35) ranched mink, forty (40) sables, eleven (11) lynx, eighteen (18) red foxes, eleven (11) silver foxes, one hundred (100) chinchillas, thirty (30) rex rabbits, nine (9) beavers, thirty (30) muskrats, fifteen (15) bobcats, twenty-five (25) skunks, fourteen (14) otters, one hundred twenty-five (125) ermines, thirty (30) possums, one hundred (100) squirrels, OR twenty-seven (27) raccoons. Many of these animals are skinned alive! Found at - http://idausa.org/facts/furfacts.html Help Lower the Cost for the Animals! SPEAK UP FOR ANIMALS USED FOR THEIR FUR!! Get involved! The World is run by people who show up. ~Unknown Need more reasons why we must work to educate the public about the fur industry? Most people don't know that about 40 million wild animals are killed in the United States each year either on fur farms or by 160,000 part-time trappers who supply pelts to the fashion industry. This number does not include nontarget animals, or "Trash Kill" (a term for unmarketable animals, such as domestic dogs and cats, deer, birds, rabbits, raptors, etc). In one study an average of 10.8 nontarget animals are trapped for each trapped target animal. Please help us put a stop to this! The innocent animals suffer in silence and desperately need our voices? Need more motivation? Visit these sites: http://furisdead.com/feat/ChineseFurFarms http://furisdead.com/photos-traps.asp Fur OutReach Details: Please join us to speak up for the innocent animals murdered for vanity. Come when you can and stay as long as you can. All leaflets and posters are provided, but feel free to make your own "kid friendly", easy to read poster, if you like. Bring your own water, sunscreen, and an umbrella, just in case! Dress in layers, because a cold morning might end up being a warm afternoon, and vice versa. We're out there rain, snow or shine! Umbrellas are great for personal shade, too. It's all set, so just show up. Everyone is welcome! WHERE Details: (Please read carefully for complete schedule). We will start at 11:30 at Mark Lloyd's Furs, 263 Josephine, between 2nd and 3rd in Cherry Creek. At about 1 PM we will head 1 block East to 3rd and Columbine to Hamilton's Furs for about an hour (if they are open, if not we'll stay at Marks Lloyds). FYI - Tsagas Furs, formerly located at 211 Detroit, IS NOW CLOSED!! NOTE: We will go from one demo to the next in the order listed, times depending on what is happening at each location, with the greatest portion of time usually at Marks Lloyds, where we usually stay until about 1 PM. If you come later than noon you will want to start looking for us at Marks Lloyds and if we aren't there, continue to Hamilton's to you catch up with us. Our demos will end at about 2 PM (again depending on what's happening). I suggest you arrive no later than 1:30 PM, so you won't miss us and waste a trip. I hope you will join us soon. The animals need all of our voices. Like fur? Grow your own! Learn more | |||||||

Subject: Psssst....We've Got a Deal for You!
July 28, 2011
Our Kitties Use a Lot of Litter!PetSmart has an incredible offer right now. Buy $25 of ExquisiCat cat litter by August 21, mail in the rebate form with your original store receipt, and PetSmart will send you a $25 PetSmart gift card. That's right - $25 of your cat litter purchase is basically free! The rebate form is in the store near the cat litter or is available at www.petsmart.com. You may submit two rebate forms per household in separate envelopes.Even if you don't have a cat or don't use this brand of litter, Every Creature Counts does! We would gladly accept any donations of this litter or the PetSmart gift card. ECC prefers the clay-type litter which is much less expensive than the scoopable litter; however, we accept donations of any kind of litter. Clay litter is easier for us to clean up in our kennels and cat cottages. You could make a great donation to Every Creature Counts and it wouldn't cost you anything! If you purchase the litter at a PetSmart where we have adoptable dogs and cats, please ask the store manager if the store will keep the litter for us to pick up. Be sure to mark it for ECC and send a short email to dogsandcats@everycreaturecounts.org to let us know which store is holding litter for us. If you take the litter home with you, please email dogsandcats@everycreaturecounts.org and we will make arrangements to meet you for a pick-up. Whether you use it for yourself or donate it to us, we wanted to share this great deal with you!
More Beer-tenders needed for Taste of Colorado!
We will have a beer booth at the Taste of Colorado at Civic Center Park in Denver over Labor Day weekend from Friday, September 2, through Monday, September 5. This is a fun event for volunteers and every volunteer shift raises money for ECC.
We need volunteers, 21 years and older, to pour beer for the following shifts: all shifts on Friday, 6 shifts on Saturday from 4:00 p.m. on, all shifts on Sunday from 12:00 noon on, and the Monday evening shifts. Please click on the volunteer schedule below and check your calendar to see if you can volunteer for a shift (or two!). Please email volunteer@everycreaturecounts.org with your desired shift and contact information.
Thank you for helping us with this fun fundraiser!

A man, that comes into the gym I work at, purchased what he thought was some hens. One of them turned out to be a rooster, of course. The rooster can be picked up but is not totally affectionate. He is in trouble with his neighbors because of the rooster wake up calls. He would like to find a good home for him. He has tried craigs list, etc but is to uncomfortable with the people who contact him and their intentions.
If you know anyone who could give a good home to a rooster, can you pass along his name and number to them?
Thanks,
Kris Wagner

Having trouble viewing this email? go here
Dear Joan Casey,As you may know, Animals Australia recently captured some shocking footage , exposing the horrific ways Australian Cattle are being slaughtered in Indonesia. Please be warned, the video contains graphic material of cattle being senselessly tortured and forced to endure completely unnecessary pain and fear.
Public outcry from this footage has been unprecedented and thousands of WSPA Canada supporters have already written to Australia's Minister of Agriculture , requesting an end to the cruel live animal export trade. People from around the world have inundated WSPA with emails and calls, asking what else they can do to help.
In response, WSPA has created an effective way you can help spread the word and stop live animal export!
Simply upload a photo like this one, with your arms outstretched to join hands with other WSPA supporters around the world who are opposed to this cruel practice.
All the photos will be linked together to form a huge chain, they'll then be counted, and the most iconic photos will be made into a visual petition. This petition will be presented to the Australian Government in just a few weeks, so please help millions of animals by taking this urgent action today.
Forward this email to your friends and family and encourage them to participate too. With your help, the Global Humane Chain will help demonstrate that the world is watching, and calling on the Australian Government to end live animal export for good.
Why is live animal export so cruel?
Australia exports millions of sheep and hundreds of thousands of cattle overseas each year. During the cramped and difficult journey, tens of thousands of animals die, with almost half of all deaths being caused by starvation. For most that survive, they are then subjected to inhumane slaughter practices in countries that don't have adequate animal welfare laws.
Together we can help save millions of animals from the unnecessary suffering of live animal export.
Thank you so much for your continued support,
Sincerely,
Silia Smith
Regional Director
North America

I found your post on-line while searching for more information about
Matt. My son was his student last year and I just received a letter
from the school district regarding his death. I found Matt to be one
of the most interesting teachers and role models for a 7th grade group
of kids. Like me, he stood for animals, veganism, and being outspoken
about what truly matters.
The letter states that a service will be held in Canada, but some of
his family will be in town to accept cards and well wishes. I don't
know any more about his passing, but know that he will be missed.
Kindly,
Katie Detmer

An Article in the July Issue of Food Nutrition & Science Reveals the Results of a New Vegetarian Study
SANTA MONICA, Calif., July 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Results from a recent study eliminates the common misconception that vegetarian diets are deficient in important nutrients that most people get from animal foods, according to an article in the July issue of Food Nutrition & Science.
The study conducted by Eastern Michigan University and published in The Journal of the American Dietetic Association, shows that vegetarian diets are nutrient dense, consistent with dietary guidelines, and high in fiber, protein, vitamin B12, calcium, zinc, and iron – nutrients that most people get from animal foods.
Researchers looked at a cross-sectional analysis of National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (1999-2004) dietary and anthropometric data focusing on participants aged 19 and older. All vegetarians were compared to all non-vegetarians. Researchers found that mean intakes of fiber, vitamins A, C and E, thiamin, riboflavin, folate, calcium, magnesium, and iron were all higher for vegetarians than for all non-vegetarians.
"I think this is fascinating," says Phil Lempert, founder of Food Nutrition & Science and CEO of The Lempert Report and SupermarketGuru.com. "These results combined with the plant-based diet guidelines provide food retailers with an opportunity to help their customers better understand how to shop and eat a healthy lifestyle. With only six percent of the population meeting the daily goal for vegetables even those who don't want to be a vegetarian could use this model to improve their health."
Also in the July edition of Food Nutrition & Science, how supermarkets are reducing emissions. According to reports, supermarkets with typical refrigeration systems leak, on average, 25 percent of their refrigerant every year. Pound for pound, the effect of these leaks is up to 3,900 times worse than that of carbon dioxide on the environment. When calculated for their effect on climate change, an average supermarket's refrigerant leaks have a higher impact on our planet than all the electricity used by an average store in one year. The article details how retailers are working with GreenChill, an Environmental Protection Agency program that helps food retailer's transition to environmentally friendlier refrigerants, reduce the amount of refrigerant used, eliminate leaks, and adopt green refrigeration technologies, strategies and practices.
In addition, this month's Food Nutrition & Science shows how Albertson's, LLC, which has stores in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, New Mexico and Texas, is removing self-checkouts in their stores to improve customer service.
"All retailers can learn how to make improvements to their stores by just talking and listening to the needs of their customers," says Lempert. "I applaud any effort for interaction."
Other articles include news about a news Birds Eye campaign to help make vegetables accessible and enjoyable to everyone and an interview with Jason Rodgers, a South Carolina peach farmer.
Food Nutrition & Science is a free monthly newsletter with articles relating to retailers, manufacturers, farmers, nutritionists, educators, government agencies and more. It's also a newsletter that services members of the National Grocer Association and offers breaking food news and articles on food safety and industry-wide green initiatives. Food Nutrition & Science is committed to covering topics and trends that interest anyone with a stake in the food industry including supermarket retailers, food manufacturers and consumers. Each issue contains an interview with a farmer.
