Subject: Plea for help from ED of Weld County Humane for dog needing home

This is an awesome executive director and she is trying to find a home for a dog who had to be surrendered by a loving owner who is now homeless...

This is one of the saddest stories I've experienced during my animal welfare career.  Yesterday, an older gentleman had to surrender his lifelong companion of 14 years.  The patron was going to be homeless in a month and could no longer take care of "Hijack".  When the patron left the shelter, he was in tears and could not look back at his friend who couldn't understand why he was being left behind.  For several minutes, Hijack kept looking at the door, searching for his master.  The patron and HIjack had been together since Hijack was 6 weeks old.  Hijack got his name due to the patron "hijacking" the pup from Alaska.  Anyway, the chances of Hijack being adopted are slim and the shelter is no place for this senior dog.  Deborah Sergesketter, Board member, has generously offered to set up a veterinary fund to take care of Hijack's medical needs.  Please, if anyone is able to give Hijack a comfortable home for his remaining years or knows of anyone willing to give this old guy a chance, please call me.

Thanks!
