Hi Everyone,
This is part 1 of 2 emails of dogs that need out of Canon City before its too late!!!! I have pictures attached of King, Jake, Blue, Nita and Vanessa.
The pictures of Travis, Chrome and Scout are bad quality and I will get new ones tomorrow and get bios and new pics sent out...as well as bio's and pics of 2 other dogs Smokey and Bear
I also think there is maybe a few other dogs at risk, I will check tomorrow

Vanessa: Border Collie mix:1 yr old , spayed, so sweet, kind of clingy & needy (more like she wants to watch over you so you ddon'tleave her) very special little girl. The people that turned her in wanted a lap dog instead.

Jake: Heeler mix- 2.5 yrs.  I love this dog.  Good w/ everyone.  Outgoing, fun, friendly.
Family turned in because they were moving.

Blue: Husky/ Heeler mix, This is the most socialized of the gp. from KS.  Most weren't handled much.  Husky x, probably 9 mos.  GREAT social skills with other dogs!  Loves to play with sm. dogs.  He's got the kind of looks people love.
Transferred from KS shelter.

Nita:Sheltie x, card says 7.  Maybe 5 or 6.  Teeth don't look bad.  getting burrs on her underside.  mats easily.  good w/ kids, housebroken.  would be a good dog for a quiet, maybe older person.  so calm & walks like a show dog on a leash.
Family turned in, decided they didnt want 2 dogs.

Scout: Lab blend was adopted at the shelter recently.  Her name was Lorraine then.  She must be spayed but her card says not.  The neighbors at the duplex kept letting her out, he said.  she wasn't jumping a fence.  very active, very friendly.  She needs out.  she does poorly in that environment & spills her water incessantly.  the shelter attendants don't like her because she's extra work , so hasty rescue is a priority.

Bear: Lab /Akita mix- he's cute.  Akita?  tail only.  calm, good on leash, 1 yr. neutered yesterday. Probably was kept in a backyard most of his life w/ minimum human contact :( but loves people alot and wants to be with them. Family turned in because they were going to rehab good with dogs and kids

Travis: 1 yr old male not fixed, Heeler mix
Found outside someones home, very friendly was laying on porch and wanted to stay with them :(

Chrome: 1 1/2 year old male not fixed, Catahoula Leopard Dog very sweet kid (
Transferred from KS shelter

Smokey: 8 month old male not fixed, Australian Cattle Dog turned in because he chews (isnt that what puppies do?? Owner didnt want the trouble)

There is also one last dog that is a NM junk yard dog of sorts (shepherd x maybe with some lab- tan in color 1 yr old) that is coming into the shelter today (fri) he is not an adoption candidate from what Ive heard (they stopped in the other day but didnt drop off because they were going to try another family member and that didnt work). His owner cant keep him because he jumps the fence but she is an older woman who keeps him chained up outside 24/7 and my guess is he is bored. He is being held in the garage  of her friend. Very loving, great with other dogs and good with kids--so sad...so he will need placement too as I dont give him the weekend with a rescue hold.

As always I will drive anywhere to get these kids safe, I can do transport runs, (possibly fri night) sat night or sunday day/night or monday day.  Next fri night as well but I dont know if these kids have that long and I wouldnt bet on it. ( I also have some other volunteers that may be able to drive on the days I cant if needed)

Please pass along as I know I missed some rescues!
Thanks!!!!!!
