CarmiePortraitSmall It's spring. It's warm. Here in Rochester, the Lilacs are in full bloom and the Lilac Festival is a big success (probably over 100,000 visitors from all over the country, if not the world!). So, it's a sure bet we're all going to be outdoors more with our pups. Note that a dog is always a "pup" in this house!

Consequently, it's time to talk about pet products that make our pets prettier (we ladies like that, guys, don't make those faces at me), make our pets happier - new fun toys, and keep our pets healthy in our own backyard. I like to do this - wish I could remember to do it more often, but know that if you've sent me links or info, I will do my best to post it. Don't hesitate to write me a little note...if it seems I've forgotten.

Check out these great sites - starting with...

Pawfun.com - you'll hear more about this site and its fun and fancy blog Gallery4-pawfunbecause the folks who created it are personal friends of mine. And, I just plain like what they're doing. Personalizing products with your pet's picture has to be a winning production, IMHO. Really, be honest...hasn't your cat, at least, asked why you don't have pictures of him or her all over your house, including all over your T-shirts, and your canvas bags?

Check out the neat photo here... which I kinda stole from the blog. Hop over there and see what it's really all about. You'll be glad you did.

FlossyFamily-flappy Ok, on those visits to the dog park, or just in your own backyard, this little toy looks like a winner, to me. The Flappy is just the kind of toy dogs drool over! I agree with the folks who make it that it's good for teething pups, and dogs who love ropes, and more. There are a number of different versions of the Flappy, each one good for a different sort of dog or different sort of play. The good news: they're machine washable. Yeah, I know...dogs don't want them washed...but, Moms do. Oh, they have a contest...hop over and check it out.

Over at the Denver Examiner, in their pets column, Michaela DeGraw has an excellent post on Pet-Friendly Landscaping 101. She recommends a review of your backyard fence - is it in need of repair? A place for your dog to rest - in the shade. No poisonous or dangerous foliage - I already talked to you about that! She says no azaleas, lilies, daffodils, or tulips.

Most important - "avoid the use of stainless steel garden edging." My daughter had first-hand experience with it injuring Reznor, her Greyhound mix. Remember that your dog frolics about the yard and is not going to pay attention to that steel garden edging. Not only can it do harm to paws, declaws, and faces - it can up your vet bill, cause the injuries will need vet care. For Denver readers, here's a great site to check out: Pawfriendly Landscapes. They actually, according to the site, will design a Pawfriendly Landscape anywhere in the U.S. Kewl!
