RMJfA- A movie for the rest of us: Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Wednesday, August 3, 2011

Just a quick note to encourage people to go out and see the film Rise of the Planet of the Apes this weekend. Not one ape was used in the film, unlike the first live action Planet of the Apes where performing chimpanzees were used and later discarded at a roadside zoo:

Not only is the message of the movie pro-AR, but the CGI is beyond fantastic and helps show the rest of Hollywood what is possible in terms of technology vs. cruelty-to-animals in training and on the set.

Cesar, the main chimpanzee, is played by the wonderful actor Andy Serkis. Both Andy and the  director, Rupert Wyatt (to whom PETA gave a Proggy: http://www.peta.org/b/thepetafiles/archive/2011/08/01/apes-director-earns-peta-award.aspx) are staunch animal rights folks.

Hollywood filmmakers judge the success of a movie based on the money they bring in on opening weekend so let's help them have a hugely successful weekend!
