RMJfA- Re: sustainable food denver

Monday, June 6, 2011
This is Sundari Kraft's group. She is the main proponent of backyard
livestock. She also has a blog at: http://heirloomgardens.blogspot.com/.

A lot of people in the radical sustainability movement, which I
heartily support in other respects, have strange ideas about
livestock. We need to insure that people understand that
sustainability is essentially incompatible with livestock, even
backyard livestock -- either by participating in the sustainability
movement ourselves, or by forming our own organizations. Transition
Colorado (which I am actually a member of) does seem to be biased
towards backyard livestock, but the Post-Carbon Institute seems to be
more neutral on the subject. Richard Heinberg, one of the leaders of
the Post-Carbon Institute, is a long-time vegetarian but hasn't spoken
out about vegetarianism (I don't know why; perhaps he feels he isn't
expert on the subject).
