Misha May Mutterings

6-8-2011
Dear Donna,

Dogs Desperate for Training and Rescue

To Get "A Leg Up" At Misha May Garage Sale on June 10, 11

Meet CODY (photo below) Friday, June 10 between 9 a.m. and noon.

The fifth annual Misha May Foundation Garage Sale, June 10-11, will help the group continue to offer community dog training programs (next class begins June 15 at Harmony Vet in Arvada) and rescue death row shelter dogs with whatever they need to become adoptable, whether training or medical care.  The sale is Friday, June 10, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, June 11, 9 a.m. to noon, at 3901 East 7th Parkway, one block west of Colorado Blvd., in Denver.

Volunteers and 'stuff' still needed for Friday and Saturday...mishamayfoundation@gmail.com

Thursday, June 9th - folks with trucks or SUV's or wagons

The all-volunteer rescue is unique because of its emphasis on training.  Its slogan is "Contact us first for training, so you won't need us later for rescue."  Many dogs are dropped at shelters for behavioral reasons that are easily corrected with appropriate training, according to Misha May's founder, Lorraine May.  May teaches Denver's only Non-Profit sponsored Dog Trainer Certification Program as well as a six week class called Understanding Dogs: Training and Behavior, with an individualized approach that welcomes nearly all dogs with nearly any issue.

The rescue and training program continually needs donations and individuals to volunteer or foster animals.  For more information, email mishamayfoundation@gmail.com  or go to its website, www.mishamayfoundation.org .

May, who is committed to ending the need for rescue, believes that understanding dog behavior is critical.  Her training programs are designed for pet parents and professionals as well as rescue volunteers.   To support the community, there are always free spots to foster dogs from any rescue or shelter with a minimal fee for the handler.

Dogs fortunate to have been rescued by Misha May include:

Wally, a New Mexico terrier mutt who developed Parvo and just weeks ago was adopted by the vet tech who cared for him.

Buddy, a 100 pound German Shepherd, who overcame Separation Anxiety, and doesn't jump fences any more due to a reliable recall cue.

Grey, a three month-old boxer mix who required a rare, expensive heart surgery.

Lila, a Black & Tan Coonhound, who was scheduled to be euthanized at a local shelter for food aggression.  She is happily adopted with another Misha May dog and friendly to all.

Wendell, an arthritic senior Chocolate Lab/Husky mix abandoned in the Utah desert.

Duke, who came to us as a rude out of control pup, but now is a mannerly companion to children and other dogs.

Cody (above) was rescued by The Misha May Foundation. He had been surrendered by his owner to an overcrowded shelter.  He will be at the sale on Friday, June 10, 9 a.m. - noon.
