So I went to LUSH Cosmetics today in Boulder and bought some stuff. Everything there is vegan with the exception of a few things that have honey or lanolin. But I have been buying stuff there because it seemed like they were really starting to get the vegan thing.. They even have a vegan lip balm. Anyway, they asked if I wanted one of their catalogs (it is called "Lush Times: The Buying Edition") so I said yes. I open it up tonight and on page 4 is a huge article: FREE RANGE EGGS! "Once upon a sunny Sunday afternoon, four members of the LUSH team went to visit our free range egg supplier, Rabbit River Farms."
Now I am really confused. I go to the LUSH web site and it talks about being anti-animal testing and I remember they were doing a big anti-seal slaughter campaign a few years ago. They also talk about making products that respect animals and, again, most of their products are vegan.. So...
1) If some of their products have egg, why are the people at the Boulder store telling me that the only non-vegan products are the ones with honey and lanolin? I dont think they are lying, but I think maybe they havent been updated. Its funny because the other day the employees were talking about where musk comes from and how bad that is... and yet this company is using eggs in their products now!?!
2) Does LUSH have a clue what really happens on free range farms?? Why would they try to make most of their products vegan and then turn around and start using eggs?!
3) I feel like I have been mislead, especially on their web site. All this stuff about ethical campaigns, being kind to animals, not testing on animals..... I thought they were really starting to get it by making most of their products vegan, having Vs on everything, but now they are starting to add stuff back in and thinking that free-range is wonderful... I am really shocked about this. I feel like if theyre going to use eggs, they need to change a lot of the wording on their web site.
