A NEW PECKING ORDER FOR URBAN BACKYARDS
Whether For Food Or Fawning Over, Chickens Are Flourishing Under New Laws

(Photo): Urban homesteader Sundari Kraft of Denver hand-feeds some of her 7 chickens. She and husband Brian also own 2 dwarf dairy goats.
(Photo): "I hug them and snuggle with them before I put them to bed," Kraft says
(Photo): Four chickens walk past their egg-laying shed. The hens' production starts slowing at about age 2, but the Krafts say their birds never will be slaughtered for them to eat.
(Photo): Sundari Kraft holds a dark Brahma hen named Cardamon as a goat and cat try to get in on the cuddle.
