Benny Bix You Stole My Heart

Tom and I were in NYC Monday and Tuesday (making this feel like the end of a weekend)...not Wednesday. NYC isn't a favorite destination of mine. I'm not a "big city" kinda gal. Mind you, I'm not a country girl, either. I like my little suburbs. That way I get the best of both worlds...I can walk to shops, and I have parks nearby, and I don't have to deal with the overcrowding of a NYC or a Toronto.

Visiting NYC for business seldom leaves me time for pleasure but on this trip Tom and I took time to connect with a good friend we've known for several years, via the blogosphere. BL Ochman is one of the top blog consultants in the industry but better than that, she's a pet lover and a pet blogger. Her pet, the one she writes most about - is the delightful Labradoodle, Benny Bix. Now, there is a kitty, Noni, but...the kitty remained hidden when we went to visit BL, so...I can't really write about her.

This post is about the marvelous Benny Bix who stole my heart! Benny greeted Tom and I at the door, when we arrived at BL's apartment (near Central Park - lucky Benny gets to walk around Central Park early morning, without his leash - is that not great?). Benny was so friendly - without being obnoxious. You know, like those little dogs that won't leave you alone...which isn't always bad, I'm not dissing them. It's just that it's nice when a dog gives a first introduction time to grow. Time being 5 minutes, in dog-time.

Benny was adorable, gorgeous, happy-go-lucky and...intelligent. I was very struck by the intelligence in his eyes, and his attitude. He played "ball" with us - and gave us that lefty-look (gazing at us sidelong, as if he didn't want us to know he was hiding the ball under his chin), and did insert himself into the conversation, as if to remind us that HE and HE alone should be the center of attention. Which is only true, after all.

And so, I fell in love, with Benny Bix, Big Boy, who acted like a puppy, the beautiful curly-haired dog that just wanted his belly rubbed. I did not expect a dog of his size in a NYC apartment, although I did see a number of people out walking large dogs, on the city streets. I did not expect a dog of such intelligence, either. I mean, Labradoodle? BL forgive me, I just associated the breed with... my not so great experiences with not-so-smart poodles.

Yes, I know...intelligence is not measured by breed (not by pet owners, anyway), but we attach it to certain dogs, don't we? I thought Benny might be fun and cute and much smaller, and when he turned out to be fun, and adorable, and large...and it wasn't just his energy that showed how smart he is - it was the way he looked right at us, full face, and smiled his doggy smile, I couldn't help myself - I fell in love. (see pic - a before and after; so, does Benny look more beautiful with long hair or short hair? I saw him with short hair and he is gorgelicious...but, I bet he'd be so with longer hair, too.)

Benny Bix, you make me eager to find a puppy just like you. Here's a Big, Big Hug! (for you, too, BL! Don't mean to forget you!)

(((((((((( ))))))))))

And one for you, too, BL. Thank you for the delightful evening.

Yvonne
