I especially love the Incredible Dog Challenge. In fact, we recently got a bunch of Incredible Dog Challenge DVDs that I'd love to share. Stay tuned for a neat contest you can participate in, to win one of these DVDs. They are really incredible! Anyway, on Dave's show, he does the diving dogs. While I applaud the skill and the excitement of having your incredible dog chase a Frisbee or other toy into a large pool, with the goal of seeing how far he can jump, I prefer the agility trials and the actual Frisbee toss. Wouldn't it be fabulous to be one of those dog parents...and watch your pup win (or just compete, hey, it's a world of fun!)? We talk about nutrition on this blog and Dr. Larry would be first to say that activity, exercise, and time spent together are important for our pets' nutritional health. It isn't just what we feed them. It's how we treat them and love them. Just like our kids, our dogs need regular exercise and outdoor time. Even the little ones. It's not true that big dogs need big backyards, btw. They need exercise - which you can give them by walking them twice a day - but they don't necessarily need an acre of land to roam around in. I have to admit, a bit guiltily, that I have never really exercised my big dogs. I walk them, sure. And we do have big backyards - where I know Carmie used to love to chase squirrels. But, I wish I'd been more proactive in taking my dogs to the park - to play. I wish I'd had something like the Incredible Dog Challenge to push me to give my dogs real challenges. When I watch the Incredible Dog Challenge DVDs, or on Letterman, I see athletic dogs doing what they love. I see unbridled happiness. I see healthy dogs, healthy owners, and a worthwhile afternoon for spectators. It's better than an action flick. IMHO p.s. before I forget - I have to share this bumpersticker we saw the other day: Dog is my co-pilot. Very kewl! |
