Suppose... A Little Thought for Our Move

Posted: 12 Jul 2009 06:21 AM PDT

CarmiePortraitSmall We've made the decision. We're preparing to move to Colorado. Good-bye, NY State. You won't have Windsor Media to kick around, anymore.

One thing that hindered our decision was how this move would affect our precious Wabby Wibby. She seems more elderly with each passing day. Mind you, she looks lovely, and she is her normal, sometimes affectionate, other times standoffish, self...but, she doesn't get around as well as she used to, and she's so much thinner these days. We feed her Senior diet, and she loves it, along with treats in the morning and evening, but...it's time for a complete blood panel to find out what's up with her weight.

The boxes and rearranging of furniture has her curious. Not confused, which I thought she would be, but, curious. She comes out every day to see what's up, check on what we're doing, and to make sure her favorite spot on the bed is still there.

So, how will the actual move affect her? Obviously, Tom and I will drive out to CO, which will take a couple of days, and we will bring our kitty with us...no sitting in the luggage area of some airline, or even "under the seat"... We want her in the car, with us...at pet hotels along the way.

Once in our new home - we don't have a set timeline, we're taking things slow - I expect she will enjoy exploring. IF we get the house we're looking at, she'll have plenty of space to explore in. The house is a bit bigger than the one we live in now. She'll find her favorite spots (and we'll have to make sure her litter box is in a convenient place), and she may even be able to go out in the fenced in backyard, with supervision.  PandoraReading2

In fact, I've taken her outdoors in this backyard, while Tom repairs the hole where the above ground pool used to be, and she loves it! Naturally, I attend her and she only spends about 10 minutes eating grass and sniffing the ground. (she never really gets any grass...she just likes rubbing against it and tasting it, I guess). I think she deserves a daily visit outdoors, with proper supervision, and she'll get that in CO, too.

So, I'm thinking more about how this move will change her life, than how it will change mine and Tom's. She's our precious, and at 16 years of age, I do not want this move to traumatize her in any way. Plus, once we get settled, our goal is to adopt a dog...bring another pet into the mix. Hmmm, I think I need to ask Dr. Larry some advice. Stay tuned for his response.
