Denim Days began in 1999, after an Italian court ruled that a rape victim could not have possibly been raped because she was wearing jeans at the time of the assault. The court felt that if the victim had on jeans, rather than a dress or skirt, she had the opportunity to fight back because jeans would’ve been harder for an attacker to remove. Sexual violence does not discriminate. Men, women, children, the elderly, and the disabled are subjected to it on a daily basis throughout the world. It’s a symptom of both ignorance and psychopathy. More information about rape myths are available here.Posted in People, Politics, Social Issues Tagged: abuse, Activism, denim days, domestic violence, incest, molestation, rape, rape myths, sexual assault |
